Adjectives(1)
There are two types of Adjectives in Japanese.
1. i-adjective Abbrebiation: i-adj.
2. na-adjective Abbrebiation: na-adj.
1. i-adj.
ookii
chiisai aoi hana kiiroi hana
kanashii ureshii
2. na-adj.
shinsetsuna hito
kireina hanabi
3. Let's make a sentense using i-adj. and na-adj.
i-adj.
This leaf is big. Kono ha wa ookii desu. (polite form)
This leaf is small.
kono ha wa chiisai desu. (polite form)
Kono ha wa ookii. (plain
form)
Kono ha wa chiisai. (plain form)
* "ookii da" is wrong usage.
This is a blue flower. Kore wa aoi hana desu. (polite form)
This is a yellow flower.
Kore wa kiiroi hana desu. (polite form) *hana (a flower)
Ko re wa aoi hana da.
na-adj.
This person is kind.
Kono hito wa shinsetsu desu. (polite form)
Kono hito wa shinsetsu da. (plain form)
This person is a kind person.
Kono hito wa shinsetsuna hito desu. * kono (this...)
hito (person)
That's beautifu! (seeing fireworks) Kireidesu (nee). kirei->kiree
That is beautiful hanabi. Are wa kireina hanabi desu.

i-adj.+ Noun -> ....i (Noun)
na-adj+Noun -> ....na (Noun)
At the end of sentense
polite form i-adj. -> ...idesu.
polite form na-adj. -> (omitted "na")desu.
plian form i-adj. -> ....i.
plain form na-adj. -> (omitted "na") +da.
Very few na-adj. ends ...idesu/da. ( or ends ...i ! in an exclatory sentence) such as "Waa kirei !!)
Example of exclamatory sentenses used i-adj. and na-adj.:
Waa ookii !!
Waa chiisai !!
"Waa" is not necesary all the time!
The popular one is " Sugoi !!" which means "Great!"
Some people add "choo" before each adjective, which
means "super" and emphasize each adjective.
